(Berlin, June 8, 2010) -- Premium AEROTEC is preparing for series production of the new A350 XWB long-haul aircraft. Production of the first panels made of carbon fibre composites (CFCs) for the A350 XWB will start at the Nordenham site in June. The Augsburg site will follow suit shortly afterwards. Premium AEROTEC is the world's largest supplier of fuselage structures for the A350 XWB. Its total investment in this future generation of aircraft amounts to around EUR 360 million, as the company announced in connection with a press meeting held in the run-up to the ILA Berlin Air Show 2010.

Premium AEROTEC is the most important aerostructures supplier for the new Airbus A350 XWB long-haul aircraft, whose fuselage is largely made of CFC materials. Carbon fibre-reinforced plastic is increasingly becoming the first choice as a material for aerostructures on account of its low weight and excellent corrosion properties.

This cutting-edge CFC technology is essential to producing the highly complex fuselage structure for the A350 XWB, with its lightweight design. It involves creating the outer skin with a fibre placement machine and curing it in the autoclave. Preparations for this in the newly built production halls in Augsburg and Nordenham are nearing completion. The large-dimensioned side shells of the rear fuselage section (sections 16-18) for the new A350 XWB long-haul aircraft will be manufactured in Augsburg; production of the entire forward fuselage section (sections 13/14), including integration, will take place in Nordenham.

non so se ci sono immagini del componente prodotto dalla Premium Aerotech ma intanto è uscito questo articolo con foto sul componente prodotto dalla Spirit AeroSystems in North Carolina:

Spirit Creates A350XWB Longest Fuselage Panel
Nov 22, 2010

Airbus’s US A350XWB production partner Spirit AeroSystems has cured a carbonfibre panel that will make up the longest section of the new twinjet’s composite fuselage.

Spirit is responsible for the production of the A350 centre-fuselage upper and forward-lower shells, which it produces at its plant in Kinston, North Carolina. These are then shipped to Airbus’s St Nazaire plant in France where assembly of the centre/forward fuselage and nose sections will be undertaken.

The 64.5 ft. long, 828 sq. ft. centre-fuselage “crown” panel is now undergoing trimming, drilling and non-destructive inspection, prior to shipping across the Atlantic.

Production of components for the first A350-900 is underway across the plants of Airbus and its partners. In September, the first crown panel for the forward fuselage was cured by EADS-owned Premium Aerotech at its plant in Nordenham, Germany.

Final assembly of the first A350 is due to start in less than a year from now in Toulouse. The twinjet will make its first flight in mid-2012 and is due to enter service with Qatar Airways in the second half of 2013.
