Airbus A350 XWB

Che ne dite di utilizzare questo thread per parlare dell'A350? (un po' come in Compagnie Aeree per AZ, LHI ecc ecc).

Airbus test-flies A350 fuselage panel on A340
Airbus has started test-flying a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic fuselage panel intended to become a standard structural component of the A350.
The airframer has replaced a regular aluminium fuselage section on one of its A340 test aircraft with the panel, manufactured at its facility in Nantes.
It is conducting a three-week flight-test programme to assess the acoustic characteristics of the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic under pressurised conditions.
The panel has been linked to microphones and its acoustic behaviour will be examined when combined with various insulation materials.
Airbus says that this will enable it to "fine-tune" sound insulation for the A350 twin-jet's cabin. The panel has an area of 15m² (160ft²).

Airbus opens A350 XWB Landing Gear Systems Test Facility in the UK

Read Market Research : The Military Aircraft Avionics Market 2010-2020
Airbus has opened the A350 XWB Landing Gear Systems Test Facility at its site in Filton in the UK, marking another important step forward in A350 XWB production.

Louis Gallois, chief executive officer of EADS, Airbus' parent company, and Sir Peter Westmacott, the UK ambassador to France, opened the building, which is named after Sir George White, the founder of the Bristol Aeroplane Company.

"Today we are not only opening an important new building, but we are also celebrating a closer step to the reality of the A350 XWB," said Gallois. "This facility, and the employees inside it, will play an important part in the integration of the landing gear systems on the aircraft, which will fly around the world and carry millions of passengers in its lifetime. I am proud that the Airbus employees in the UK will play such an important role in this programme."

Construction of the EUR39m facility started in January 2009. Inside there is a large bay that will house the following: the landing gear systems integrated rigs (LG0); an avionics suite with test benches known as the Landing Gear Systems Functional Integration Benches (FIB); a control room from which all tests are co-ordinated; a parts store; and a dedicated viewing area for visitors.

In line with Airbus' environmental requirements, this building uses innovative technology to reduce the environmental footprint of the building. This includes natural light and temperature monitoring systems which will ensure that just the right amount of energy is used to heat and light the building.

Approximately 30 full-time employees will work in the landing gear systems test facility when the rigs enter the initial test phase in mid-2011. The Airbus site at Filton is responsible for the specification, procurement, aircraft integration and certification of all Airbus aircraft landing gear and associated systems. The test facility will demonstrate the maturity of the landing gear system, and provide evidence for the certification of the landing gear and systems, especially the extension-retraction and braking systems.

The A350 XWB (Xtra Wide-Body) Family is an all-new mid-size long range product line comprising three basic passenger versions seating between 270 and 350 passengers in typical three-class layouts. Scheduled for entry-into-service in 2013, the A350 Family is already one of most successful aircraft programmes ever, with a total of 558 firm orders already received from 34 customers worldwide.

Full A350 landing-gear tests to begin in weeks
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Airbus is hoping to begin landing-gear testing of the A350 at the Filton facility in the UK, following initial installation of the first nose-gear in the test rig.
Manufacturer Liebherr Aerospace has provided the nose-gear assembly to the 'Landing Gear Zero' rig, and Messier-Dowty is to supply the main landing-gear in the next few weeks.
This will enable preliminary testing of all three A350 gear assemblies, while full integration testing will begin when the facility formally comes on-line at the end of this year.
"These tests are carried out to demonstrate reliability and maturity in addition to providing evidence for certification, especially with regards to the extension-retraction, braking and steering systems," says Airbus.
Airbus also has similar corresponding test-benches for the A350, known as 'Cabin Zero' and 'Aircraft Zero', for testing internal equipment and flight-control systems respectively.

Airbus resists pressure to scale up A350-1000
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Airbus is not intending to change the size of the A350-1000 as it heads towards definition freeze for the twinjet by the end of this year, although it has yet to confirm the extent to which it might adapt the aircraft to better compete with the Boeing 777-300ER.
Overall configuration of the A350-1000 was validated in November 2010, including the type's fuselage size. Sources close to the programme indicate that there are no plans to change the aircraft's basic dimensions. The A350 will typically seat 350 passengers against the 777-300ER's 370.
But there is still a lack of clarity as to whether Airbus is to tweak the thrust requirement for the type.
Industry sources familiar with the situation say that Airbus insists it is "not changing the size of the aircraft", but "recognises that an increased thrust may result in slightly higher fuel burn".
If Airbus changes the thrust, and this leads to a larger fan size on the powerplant, says the source, the aircraft would also "probably" need a re-optimised pylon.
Rolls-Royce, which is supplying the Trent XWB engine for the A350 family, has declined to comment beyond supporting a statement in March, by Airbus vice-president of marketing Andrew Shankland, that the Trent was sufficient to power the twinjet.
Airbus's efforts to keep definition freeze on schedule come as Emirates is looking at a possible switch of A350-900s to the -1000, although the Dubai-based carrier says that the type - as it stands - does not compare to the 777-300ER, and that Airbus should be considering a higher take-off weight and greater thrust.
Last year's validation of the A350-1000 airframe, says Airbus, means the aircraft "has the capability to meet the performance targets and guarantees".
Airbus adds that it is "progressing well" with the A350, with a technology insertion programme for the -1000, which was created with "the objective of further optimising the airframe and performance while keeping a high level of commonality".
Qatar Airways is the launch customer for the A350-1000, with service entry intended in 2015. The carrier has 20 on order, as does Emirates. Another 35 have been ordered by Etihad Airways and Asiana.

Consegnato il primo carrello dell'A350-900
Manufacturer Messier-Dowty has delivered the first Airbus A350-900 main landing-gear to the undercarriage test facility at the airframer's UK site at Filton.
The delivery follows the Filton plant's receiving the A350's first nose-gear last month, built by Liebherr.
Both will be mounted in a rig for integration testing which will begin towards the end of 2011, says Airbus.
"These tests will be carried out to demonstrate reliability and maturity, and will also provide evidence for certification, especially regarding the extension-retraction, braking and steering systems," it adds.

Each main landing-gear bogie for the -900 and -800 will comprise four wheels. The A350-1000's main gear will feature a six-wheel bogie, and will be manufactured by Goodrich.

Svelati gli interni del 350 US
It seems that US Airways has revealed its Airbus A350 configuration.

A350-800 - 36 Envoy Class / 234 Economy Class
A350-900 - 36 Envoy Class / 294 Economy Class

The airline has 18 A350-800 aircraft and 4 A350-900 aircraft on order for delivery from 2017 onwards.
The US Airways present A330-200 has 20 Envoy Class seats and 238 Economy Class seats.
The A350 will have 16 extra Envoy Class seats while the A350-800, with 234 Economy Class seats will have just four Economy Class seats less than the A332. The A350-800's cabin length is almost identical to the A330-200. The A350-900, which is about two metres longer than the A330-300 in cabin length will seat 6 more Envoy and 31 more Economy passengers over the airline's present A330-300 configuration ( 30 J / 263 Y ).

A350-1000 to get new Trent XWB+ engine, takes aim at 777 family

The 93,000lb Trent XWB engine, recently called "certainly sufficient" to meet the mission requirements of the 350-seat A350-1000, appears set to get a 5000lb thrust boost to better compete with Boeing's 777-300ER. That jump to 98,000lbs - which Steven Udvar-Hazy said was necessary to meet its goals - is aimed at increasing the payload range capability of the -1000 another 500nm from 7,990nm to 8,490nm. Yet, even if the new Trent XWB is only designed to meet the near-8,000nm mission, then the powerplant may begin to accelerate Boeing's -300ER upgrades, and could pose a larger challenge to the 777 family.

While the development of the new larger 98,000lb Trent XWB will certainly push the late-2015 EIS well to the right, even before any A350-900 delays are made official, the new engine gives Boeing some clarity on how to respond to the design changes.

However, understanding the foundations of Airbus's incremental "DNA" this new (and costly) engine is not a one-off to compete at 350-seats. The Trent XWB+ (or whatever it will be dubbed) is Airbus's answer for not just the -300ER market, but the ultra-long range -200LR at 301-seats, and more even more importantly the highly successful 777F.

The A350-1000 engine was already set to power both the A350-900R and A350-900F, so even with a five year slip to 2020, the -1000 gets Airbus into the long-range 350-seat market faster than Boeing got to the -300ER after the 777-200's 1995 entry into service. In no uncertain terms, Airbus is taking a page from Boeing's own playbook in the same way that the General Electric GE90-110 and -115 cover the 777F, -200LR and -300ER.

Though, the new engine also presents increased risk for the A350-1000. Boeing, by comparison, moved the simple fuselage stretch of 33ft 3in first to the 777-300, then evolved once again to the 777-300ER's updated airframe and GE90-115BL engines. The much maligned "Derivatives R Us" phase of Boeing's history in the late 1990s has yielded its current cash crop of product.

The middle step to the -300, which was a basic stretch of the 777-200ER's airframe, allowed Boeing to significantly de-risk the -300ER's development by better understanding the airframe's capability before optimizing it for the longer missions. Make no mistake, this engine looks to be readying a full assault against the 777 program.
