Brutte notizie

http://www.repubblica.it/economia/finan ... ref=HRLV-4

By: DAVID KAMINSKI-MORROWLONDON Source: 5 hours ago
Qatar Airways’ first Airbus A350-900 has broken cover with its full livery, although the aircraft has yet to have its powerplants installed.
The Doha-based airline will be the initial recipient of the A350 when it takes delivery of the jet by the end of the year.
It has shown off the first aircraft in the carrier’s distinctive grey-and-maroon livery but without its Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.
Qatar Airways has 80 A350s on order. The airline is also preparing to take delivery of its first A380.

Airbus expects eventually to sell part of the A350-900 test fleet to customers, although it has not indicated how many of the five jets could be transferred.

The airframer is aiming for A350 certification in the third quarter and is preparing to introduce the final test aircraft, MSN5, to the programme.

MSN5 will have a full cabin fit and be used for route proving. One other A350, MSN2, is cabin-fitted while MSN1 and MSN3 have undertaken much of the heavy development testing.

Airbus Group chief financial officer Harald Wilhelm, speaking as the company disclosed first-quarter results, said that “some of them are expected to be sold”.

But he added that this would only take place “at a much later point in time”. He did not state how many of the aircraft could conceivably be handed on.

Boeing had six aircraft in its 787-8 test fleet but could only consider three of them as potential sale airframes because of the extensive modifications made to the other three.

Wilhelm says the airframer has ensured that the book value of the A350 test fleet has been kept realistic, and adds that it “wouldn’t count on a big profit contribution” from any sale. “We don’t expect any substantial profit or loss from it,” he says.

Two A350s are undergoing final assembly in Toulouse ahead of the first delivery, to Qatar Airways, scheduled for the fourth quarter.

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articl ... om-404288/

Airbus aims to line-fit A350 with lithium battery from 2016

Airbus is to work towards offering a lithium battery as the line-fit standard for its A350-900 from 2016, following certification of the type with nickel-cadmium cells.

The European Aviation Safety Agency has granted a type certificate for the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 powered jet, with US FAA approval set to follow shortly.

While Airbus had originally designed the A350 to draw electrical power from lithium batteries, it deferred this plan after concerns emerged over the use of such batteries in the Boeing 787.

“There was a period when we weren’t sure the certification requirement for a lithium solution would have been stable,” says A350 programme chief Didier Evrard. “We didn’t want to take any risks.”

Airbus conducted tests of both battery types on its A350 prototype fleet although the last development aircraft, as the certification standard model, retained a nickel-cadmium battery.

“We gave a little time to the authorities to review the certification requirements for a lithium solution,” says Evrard.

“We didn’t have to change our initial design – the certification basis we’d taken into account, ourselves, was not changed.”

He says that Airbus considers its design “absolutely” safe and that, with the certification basis in place, it can progress towards completing the certification work on a lithium option for customers, which it intends to have in place in 2016.

The aircraft has been approved to operate at a maximum altitude of 43,100ft.

EASA’s certificate states that the A350 and A330 are “variants of the same type of aircraft” for purposes of pilot type ratings. It adds that the aircraft is cleared to transport 385 passengers with its basic exit configuration, and up to 440 with an optional exit layout.

Ecco la press release AIB:

Ref: http://www.airbus.com/newsevents/news-e ... r-airways/
The first A350 XWB for Qatar Airways is progressing towards delivery before year end. The aircraft equipped with Rolls Royce Trent XWB engines rolled out of the Airbus factory in Toulouse fully painted, prominently bearing Qatar Airways’ livery.
Following the recent EASA Type Certification, the Qatar Airways A350-900 is now entering into its final stage of production during which Airbus and the airline teams are actively working together in order to ensure a seamless hand-over process. The remaining steps up to delivery comprise notably the cabin completion as well as ground and flight tests.
The A350 XWB is Airbus’ all-new mid-size long range product line and the newest member of Airbus' leading widebody family. The A350 XWB stands out in its class thanks to its combination of passenger comfort, technological innovation and its unique industrial process. Built hand-in-hand with our customers, the A350 XWB sets new standards in terms of passenger experience, operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. At the end of September 2014, the A350 XWB had won 750 orders from 39 customers worldwide.

Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways and Airbus announce the highly anticipated date of the official delivery of the first of its 80 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft on order, set to take place in Toulouse, France.

The A350 XWB is a family of mid-sized wide-body airliners designed to enhance fuel, operating costs and environmental efficiencies during medium-to-long haul airline operations and features the very latest in aerodynamics, design and advanced technologies.

The first commercial service will be deployed on the Frankfurt route from January 2015.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “The delivery of our first A350 XWB aircraft, as global launch customer, is a highly anticipated event in the relatively young history of Qatar Airways and the second significant fleet milestone for our airline, having recently taken delivery of our A380 aircraft.

“Qatar Airways is committed to offering our passengers the very best five-star experience when it comes to travelling, not only in terms of the custom-built comfort features across all of our cabins and the service on board, but with the investment and expansion of our modern fleet. The arrival of this new generation of aircraft type represents a moment of great symbolic national pride for the State of Qatar, and I know its delivery will be met with excitement at its new home Hamad International Airport, which was built for advanced aircraft types such as this.”

The introduction of the A350 XWB into service will signal a new frontier in aviation history as this will be a brand new aircraft type projected for the industry for the next decade.

Over 70 percent of the A350 XWB’s weight-efficient airframe is made from advanced materials combining composites (53 percent), titanium and advanced aluminium alloys. The aircraft’s innovative all-new Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) fuselage results in lower fuel burn as well as easier maintenance.

Qatar Airways has seen rapid growth in just 17 years of operation, to the point where today it is flying a modern fleet of 142 aircraft to 145 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America.

Notes to Editors:

Qatar Airways celebrated its one year anniversary, in October 2014, of joining the oneworld global alliance. The award-winning alliance was named the World’s Best Airline Alliance 2014 by Skytrax for the second year running this year.

Qatar Airways was the first Gulf carrier to join this global airline alliance, enabling its passengers to benefit from almost 1,000 airports in more than 150 countries, with 14,250 daily departures.

At the Farnborough Air Show, the airline placed an order for 100 Boeing 777X aircraft, taking Qatar Airways’ orders to more than 340 aircraft with a value of US $70 billion.
