Re: Airbus A350 XWB
Aspettiamo settimana prossima e vediamo cosa dice Airbus ufficialmente.

Airbus First A350 Central Wing Box Goes to Toulouse for Assembly

Aug. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Airbus SAS is sending the central
wing box for its first A350 wide-body plane to the main factory
in southern France, moving closer to assembling an aircraft that
management has said is the company's main challenge.
The wing box, which secures the wing within the fuselage,
was built in Nantes in northwestern France, before moving to St.
Nazaire where it will be fitted into the A350 fuselage. The
complete subassembly, or single structure, can be flown in an
Airbus's Beluga cargo plane to the assembly line in Toulouse in
southern France, Airbus said today in an e-mailed release.
The wing box is made of composite materials, which are
stronger and harder than aluminum and weigh as much as 40
percent less. Airbus and Boeing Co. are boosting use of such
materials on new planes to make them lighter and increase fuel
efficiency.
The structure of Airbus's A350 will be about 50 percent
built from composites, like Boeing's 787 Dreamliner jet that's
entering service this year. Airbus, which is owned by Paris- and
Munich-based based European Aeronautic, Defence & Space & Co,
aims to deliver the aircraft to customers by the end of 2013.

Earlier this week (7th September), the first “Upper Wing” cover for a flying Airbus A350, was transferred to wing assembly, in Broughton, Wales.
An Airbus “Beluga” transported the wing cover on the short flight, from Hamburg.
The wing covers measure 32m long by 6m wide, making them the largest commercial aviation parts, made from carbon fiber.

Airbus riceve primo muso A350

Airbus starts making the wings for first A350 XWB
Assembly of the first A350 XWB’s 32-metre-long carbon fibre wings has begun at Airbus’ recently-opened North Factory in Broughton, UK. Pre-assembly of ribs, upper and lower covers and fixed leading and trailing edges already has taken place. These components will be moved into the main assembly jigs for full wing box integration. Most of the A350 XWB wing is made of lightweight carbon composites, including the upper and lower wing covers, stringers, front and rear spars. The advanced structural design and superior wing aerodynamics are significant contributors to the aircraft’s 25 per cent fuel-saving performance.

Etihad becomes first to cancel A350-1000s
Etihad Airways has cancelled six Airbus A350-1000s, the first carrier to have cut its backlog for the type since the aircraft was redesigned last year.
Airbus had a backlog of 75 A350-1000s but its latest order and delivery figures show Etihad's backlog of 25 has been cut to 19.
While Etihad has not commented on the A350-1000 redesign, a source close to the carrier said it was not content with the changes made to the twinjet, echoing the feelings expressed by Emirates and Qatar Airways.
Airbus chief Tom Enders indicated there might be "short-term" issues regarding discussions with existing customers for the A350-1000.
The A350 programme secured orders for only 10 aircraft in 2011, while cancellation of 41 left the type in negative net figures for the year.
Cancellation of a single A350-800 also helped to reduce the A350 order backlog to 555 aircraft, comprising 118 -800s, 368 -900s and 19 -1000s.
Enders reiterated the airframer's caution over A350 development, admitting that postponement of its entry to the final assembly line had been decided after the programme "ran into some serious problems" with key elements.
He said the A350's final assembly would begin in March 2012. Without caution, and assurance of maturity, he said, "you're setting yourself up for disaster".
Chief operating officer for customers John Leahy said he was in discussions with three major airlines for the A350-1000, and added that the main problem was "getting them early delivery positions".

Cathay Pacific inks deal for six more A350-900s
Cathay Pacific has inked an agreement with Airbus for the purchase of six more A350-900 aircraft in a deal worth $1.62 billion.
It expects to take delivery of the aircraft between 2016 and 2017 and operate them on long-haul routes to destinations in Europe, said the airline in a stock exchange statement.
It added that the six aircraft, which brings its order for the -900s to 36, will "replenish and expand" its fleet capacity.
"The company expects that the Airbus aircraft will deliver improved payload range capability at competitive operating costs while providing high standards of passenger comfort and safety," said Cathay.
The aircraft will be paid for in eight instalments, with the first seven to be made before delivery and the balance once the aircraft are received.
Funding will come from commercial bank loans and other debt instruments of the airline or cash generated from its business operations, it added.
Cathay had previously said that it needs "new super efficient aircraft" to replace its ageing fleet of Boeing 747-400s and Airbus A340s to meet its expansion plans.
The airline first signed an agreement for 30 -900s in 2010.
