La stessa notizia ..... dal 'Daily Report' dell' AFA .....
First C-27J Transfer to Coast Guard .....

Arie Church - 11/17/2014

The Coast Guard took delivery of the first of 14 former Air National Guard C-27J transports it is slated to receive.
The airplane, which formerly served at the Mississippi ANG's schoolhouse at Key Field in Meridian, was ferried on Nov. 13 from the Air Force’s aircraft boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., to CGAS Elizabeth City, N.C., according to the boneyard’s Facebook page.
Technicians will refurbish the second C-27J destined for the Coast Guard for delivery by the end of November, Teresa Pittman, spokeswoman for Davis-Monthan’s 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group, told Air Force Magazine.
She noted that the first C-27J was stored still in Army markings left over from the time of the joint Air Force-Army C-27 program.
The Coast Guard is passing seven HC-130s to the US Forest Service and curtailing its buy of HC-177 search aircraft in exchange for the C-27Js.
This move is expected to save the Coast Guard approximately one-half billion dollars in acquisition costs.
The rest of the Air Force’s 21 C-27s are earmarked for transfer to US Special Operations Command.

Dove, nell'articoletto, viene citato lo 'HC-177' ..... si dovrebbe in realtà leggere 'HC-144A' .....

L' affaire afgano brucia ancora .....
Afghan Air Force Procurements Under Scrutiny .....

Marc V. Schanz - 11/19/2014

Multiple investigations for auditing purposes and to identify potential criminal violations are underway into US-handled aircraft procurements for the Afghan air force, John Sopko (*), special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, told reporters on Tuesday.

(*) ..... http://www.sigar.mil/about/leadership/ig-sigar.html

The United States has the goal of building the AAF into a sustainable air arm.
However, some of these efforts, such as the acquisition of 20 C-27A transports for the Afghans wound up being excessively wasteful, said Sopko during the press roundtable in Washington, D.C.
The Air Force, for example, ended up selling the Afghan C-27s for scrap after there were extensive problems with the airplanes.
"They didn’t fly and didn’t work," said Sopko.
His office, known as SIGAR, estimates that the total cost of the C-27 contract amounted to between $600 million and $800 million, although his auditors have not yet determined a full accounting of the costs.
"We want to find out why [the purchase was made] and see if there are lessons learned," he added.
The planned acquisition of additional Mi-17 helicopters for the AAF was problematic as well, he said.
That's because the Afghans had difficulty flying and maintaining their existing Mi-17 fleet, and SIGAR saw no need to add new-build airframes to it, he said.

http://www.janes.com/article/45224/alen ... equirement

Vi si fa rilevare la 'stranezza' della decisione presa in merito da Alenia Aermacchi .....
In terms of the reason given by Alenia for not running in the Indian MTA competition, it is surprising that the company has pulled out on account of its C-27J being too advanced for the requirement.
Although the C-27J's 11-tonne payload and 4,018 km (with a 6,000 kg payload) range are in excess of the IAF's request for proposals (RfP), the MTA requirement is very much in the class of the C-27J.

C-130H, C-27J Collide Near Fort Bragg .....

Amy McCullough - 12/4/2014

An Air Force Reserve C-130H assigned to the 440th Airlift Wing at Pope Field, N.C., and an Army Special Operations Command C-27J made contact in the air near Fort Bragg, N.C., around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, according to a 440th AW release.
“Both aircraft landed safely with no reported injuries to aircrew or civilians, although each aircraft sustained some damage,” states the release.
Both aircraft were conducting routine, but separate training missions.
There were eight people on board the C-130H at the time, and five people aboard the C-27J, said officials.

Altri due C-27J per il Perù ..... ulteriori dettagli da 'Jane's' .....
In addition to enhancing its airlift capabilities, the C-27J procurement will enable Peru to boost its domestic aerospace capabilities.
As part of the deal's 100% offset requirement, Alenia Aermacchi will now establish a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility in Peru to service the type, and the Ministry of Defence hopes the facility will eventually produce parts for the C-27J as well as assembling aircraft using some locally sourced components.
