Spartan's Desert Sojourn .....

Technicians recently refurbished and delivered a third former Air National Guard C-27J Spartan to the Coast Guard from the boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., officials announced .....
http://www.uscg.mil/acquisition/newsroo ... 080415.asp
The 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan initially stored a total of 13 Spartans - all of which are slated for regeneration for the Coast Guard, 309th AMARG spokeswoman Terry Pittman told Air Force Magazine on Aug. 19.
Three additional C-27Js are currently undergoing rework at the 309th AMARG, and seven more are undergoing prep or are still in desert storage, she added.
The Coast Guard is taking on 14 total airframes - including all those in storage and one contractor-held example - while the seven remaining ex-ANG aircraft were ferried directly to US Special Operations Command, Pittman said.
The aircraft ferried to CGAS Elizabeth City, N.C., on July 28, joins the service's two other C-27s currently conducting aircrew and maintenance training, according to a release.
The Coast Guard plans to eventually retrofit the aircraft with mission-specific equipment, including a search radar and sensors for search and rescue, maritime patrol, and drug and migrant interdiction.

Finmeccanica fa un' offerta .....
Italian company Finmeccanica is pitching its C-27J Spartan and MC-27J Praetorian aircraft to the UK government as a British solution to a British set of requirements.
Speaking at the DSEI 2015 exhibition in London on 16 September, senior vice president of UK Corporate, Sir Brian Burridge, said that the twin-turboprop tactical airlifter and its special mission stablemate are largely built by UK industry and would offer the country the range of capability sets that it is either currently lacking or will shortly lose due to fleet retirements and other factors.

As the Gulf nations struggle to adjust to an evolving battlefield, Italian defense contractor Alenia Aermacchi is pitching its new MC-27J multi-mission airlifter and gunship as the best way to meet the new threat.
Alenia is in talks with at least two Gulf nations to buy the new aircraft, which is based on the Italian Air Force’s C-27J Spartan battlefield airlifter, company spokesman Marco Valerio Bonelli told Defense News on Nov. 12.
He would not identify the countries.

Embraer will put forward an ambitious bid to replace Canada’s antiquated fixed-wing search-and-rescue fleets, offering its in-development KC-390 military transport for the role.

Embraer confirms it will respond to the government's FWSAR request for proposals issued in March, which closes January 11.
That makes Embraer the third company to confirm its bid for the long-running procurement, putting the KC-390 against the Airbus C295 and Alenia Aermacchi C-27J turboprops.

The aircraft will not need significant modification, Embraer says, and it already comes standard with electro-optical/infrared and radar sensors, as required.

Canada’s decade-long quest to purchase a new fixed-wing search and rescue (FWSAR) aircraft has come down to three contenders, the Embraer KC-390, Alenia Aermacchi C-27J and Airbus Defence & Space C-295W.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) confirms that just three proposals were received, which means the Bell-Boeing V-22 and Viking Air's concept for a new-build DHC-5 Buffalo did not make surprise returns.

Concorso canadese ..... non sarà per Agosto .....
Canada plans to select a new fleet of search-and-rescue aircraft by the end of the year, wrapping up what has become one of the longest defense procurements in the country’s history.
The (CAN) $3 billion ($2.3 billion) project, started in 2004, is expected to be a battle between two European planes, the C-27J aircraft from Leonardo (formerly Finmeccanica) and the C-295 from Airbus Defense and Space.
Embraer of Brazil has also bid the KC-390.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
Canadian government officials say they expect the contract to be awarded by the end of 2016.
Steve Lucas, a former head of the RCAF and now an advisor to Leonardo, said the announcement of the winning bidder could come slightly early, perhaps sometime in the fall.

The introduction into service of the C-27J by the US Coast Guard is giving a handy boost to the aircraft ahead of Canada’s selection of a new search and rescue aircraft, according to a source at Italian manufacturer Leonardo-Finmeccanica said on Thursday.
After receiving four of 14 C-27s, the Coast Guard flew one of the aircraft to the Farnborough International Airshow this week for static display.
The four aircraft are now operational in Sacramento, replacing older C-130H aircraft, while up to six will be deployed to Florida with others used for training.
Later this year, Canada is expected to choose between the C-27J and the Airbus C-295 as its new search and rescue aircraft, following a long, drawn-out selection process.

"Alenia drops India Avro replacement tender" .....

Bene ..... come c' era da aspettarsi ..... sta procedendo ..... a strappi .....
Airbus Defence & Space has moved a step closer to securing an Indian contract for 56 C295W medium transports, with in-country flight trials of the type having been completed.
“The C295W programme is progressing smoothly and we have successfully completed the field evaluation trial of the aircraft in India, as well as the maintenance evaluation,” the company confirms.
While declining to provide specifics of the programme's current status, it adds: “The acquisition is progressing well, as per the DPP [defence procurement procedure].”
Several further steps need to be taken as part of India’s labyrinthine and notoriously time-consuming defence procurement system, before a formal contract can be signed.
The Defence Acquisition Council – which is led by defence minister Manohar Parrikar – gave its go-ahead for the programme in May 2015, having deferred a decision six months earlier, and the effort to acquire the type has been under way since 2012.
