tolte le limitazioni ai raptor:
To resume normal operations the service has modified the Combat Edge upper pressure garment and its associated hoses, valves and connectors, the USAF says. The service officially fingered a malfunctioning valve in the upper pressure garment which was not allowing the vest to deflate properly as the primary culprit behind a series of incidents resembling hypoxia.

"The Visionix / Gentex Scorpion helmet-mounting cueing system demo planned for this summer, which was planned as a technology demonstration, was cancelled as a result of sequestration budgetary actions," the USAF says. "This system had not been programmed for integration into the aircraft and there are no immediate plans to integrate the Scorpion system into the F-22."

Immagine
The U.S. Air Force is planning to request proposals from industry to finally provide needed communications connectivity between fifth- and fourth-generation fighters.
The service has long projected a need for so-called "5th to 4th" capability. This need is made even more urgent as the timeline for fielding the stealthy, fifth-generation F-35 has stretched out due to technical challenges in development and funding limitations at Air Force headquarters. And the service acquired far fewer stealthy F-22s from Lockheed Martin than originally planned, making the ability to connect each one to larger networks critical for campaign planning in future operations.

With the F-35 taking far longer to field than planned, its F-22 numbers stemmed at 183 and little money on the horizon for new programs, the U.S. Air Force now faces decades before it can achieve its long-held goal of an all fifth-generation fighter fleet.
In the meantime, the service has two stealthy fighters—each costing more than $100 million per aircraft—that cannot effectively share data with the fleet (or each other) without compromising the very stealthiness that drove up their cost.

F-22s' First Action .....

John A. Tirpak, Marc V. Schanz, Amy McCullough (9/24/2014)

F-22 Raptors assigned to the 1st Fighter Wing at JB Langley-Eustis, Va., and deployed to the Arabian Gulf region, took out an ISIS command and control center in Ar Raqqah, Syria, Monday night, marking the first time the fifth generation fighters have been used in combat, confirmed Air Force and Defense Department officials.
Joint Staff Director of Operations Army Lt. Gen. William Mayville (*) told reporters Tuesday the F-22s used GPS-aided munitions to target the command and control facility located in northern Syria, about 75 miles from the Turkish border.
Mayville displayed before-and-after photos of the target building, explaining that the F-22s were successful in destroying only the one end that targeteers wanted to hit.
Mayville said US Central Command's combined air and space operations center chose the platforms used in the attack based on "what was available" in the region.
The stealthy F-22s are principally intended for air superiority, but also have an attack capability.
Officials familiar with the program told Air Force Magazine the Raptors involved in the strikes dropped 1,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munitions.
USAF F-22s are capable of carrying two 1,000-pound JDAMs.
Some also are equipped to carry eight Small Diameter Bombs, though officials said the ones operating in the Middle East are not.
Mayville said every effort was made to minimize collateral damage in the overnight airstrikes, noting DOD is "unaware" of any civilian casualties resulting from the attacks.
Officials declined to release the exact number of F-22s involved in the strikes, citing operational security concerns.
Syria Strikes Include F-22 Debut .....

John A. Tirpak (9/24/2014)

No coalition aircraft were lost in a series of "very successful" strikes against a range of terrorist targets in Syria and Iraq Monday night, Joint Staff Director of Operations Army Lt. Gen. William Mayville (*) reported Tuesday during a Pentagon press conference.
Mayville confirmed the F-22 Raptor participated in the strikes, hitting an ISIS command and control center in Syria during its combat debut.
Other US platforms launching strikes included F-15Es, F-16s, F/A-18s, as well as B-1B bombers, unidentified "drones," and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles; more than 40 of which were fired collectively from the USS Arleigh Burke and USS Philippine Sea.
Raw footage also showed F/A-18 and EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft launching from the carrier USS George H. W. Bush.
Mayville said the strikes took place in three waves, beginning at about 8:30 p.m. EST on Sept. 22.
The first wave included the TLAMs, which struck ISIS targets in the vicinity of Aleppo, Syria.
The second wave, conducted at about 9 p.m. EST, included the F-22s, F-15s, B-1s, and F-16s, striking ISIS headquarters, "training camps, barracks, and combat vehicles," Mayville said.
Carrier-based aircraft from the Persian Gulf and "regionally based" F-16s made up the third wave, which launched around midnight EST, and focused on "targets in Eastern Syria, to include ISIL training camps and combat vehicles" in the area around Dayr az-Zawr.
Coalition partners flew combat missions in the second and third waves, Mayville reported, but he declined to specify allied contributions, referring such questions to partner countries.
He also said some targets were struck in Iraq, but didn't provide details.
US aircraft dropped the "preponderance" of munitions expended, he said.

Non ancora del tutto .....
The EA-6B remains in active service today.
In 2009, the Navy EA-6B Prowler community began transitioning to the EA-18G Growler, a new electronic warfare derivative of the F/A-18F Super Hornet.
All but one of the active duty Navy EA-6B squadrons are based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
VAQ-136 is stationed at Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan, as part of Carrier Air Wing 5, the forward deployed naval forces (FDNF) air wing that embarks aboard the Japan-based George Washington.
VAQ-209, the Navy Reserve's sole EA-6B squadron, was stationed at Naval Air Facility Washington, Maryland.
All Marine Corps EA-6B squadrons are located at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina.
The USN plans to fly the EA-6B until 2015 (or later), while the USMC expect to phase out the Prowler in 2019.

1) E' ancora l'unico aereo veramente stealth in servizio.
