Qualche anno fa. Il 104 in Italia è stato dismesso nel 2004. L'ADV c'era negli anni '90.

The US Air Force is pushing ahead with an effort to extend the service lives of 300 Lockheed Martin F-16C/D fighters as a stopgap measure until the F-35 Lightning II is operational in sufficient numbers.
The service announced on 2 October it would finalise the design of the aircraft within 18 to 24 months and wants to give prospective industry bidders a “first look” into the scope of work needed to extend the aircraft’s service life from 8,000 flight hours to between 10,000 and 12,000 flight hours.

Aggiornamento degli F-16 sparsi per il mondo ..... c'è anche Boeing .....
LONDON .....
Boeing plans to continue competing with Lockheed Martin for F-16 upgrade business despite the cancellation of BAE Systems’ contract to modernize Korea’s F-16s, according to company officials attending the Defense IQ International Fighter conference here.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----

Boeing has hands-on experience with the F-16 now that it has successfully completed a development programme to convert the jets to remotely piloted drones used for target practice.
The company’s success with what is called the QF-16 suggests being a non-OEM is not an insurmountable hurdle.

USAF Makes Progress on F-16D Repairs .....

(1/5/2015)

Repairs have been made to 30 of the 32 F-16Ds assigned to Luke AFB, Ariz., that were among the 82 overall two-seaters grounded in August after structural cracks were discovered along the canopy sill longeron between the front and rear pilot seats, according to a Dec. 24 base release .....

http://www.af.mil/News/ArticleDisplay/t ... epair.aspx

“The remaining two aircraft are currently awaiting engineering assessments with repair completion expected by early January,” states the release.
Luke’s first Fighting Falcon returned to flight in November.
Depot maintenance crews have been working 12-hour days, six days a week to repair the longeron cracks, which Col. Rick Ainsworth, 56th Maintenance Group commander, called “one of the most challenging F-16 fleet issues we've seen in years.”
The Air Force grounded the fleet in August after cracks were found in one aircraft during a routine post-flight check.
After an immediate action inspection of all 157 D models, 75 were found to have no cracks and were restored to flight status.
"The grounding of the F-16D has had a big effect on the pilot training mission," said MSgt. Thomas Hartley, the 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group section chief.
SMSgt. Ronald Tann, the 56th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron assistant superintendent, said the F-16Ds are “vital to the success of our mission to train and develop combat-ready pilots.”

Prime consegne di radar AESA destinati agli F-16 di Taiwan .....
Northrop Delivers AESA Radar For Taiwan F-16 Upgrade .....

Aviation Week & Space Technology (Jan 05, 2015, p. 40) - Graham Warwick (Washington)

More than 40 years after its first flight, the F-16 is entering a new phase of life as the aircraft’s manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, has taken delivery of the first active, electronically scanned array (AESA) radar to be used to upgrade the widely used multirole fighter.

Northrop Grumman has delivered an APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) unit to Lockheed for use in its system integration laboratory for the F-16 upgrade.

A “significant quantity” of EMD radars will be delivered for ground- and flight-testing, all built to production configuration, says Jeff Leavitt, vice president of Northrop’s combat avionics systems unit.

Leavitt says the company is using a “unique” approach to bring in “all the rigor of normal production to EMD manufacturing and testing processes.”
The first radar has been delivered with a “solid” engineering release of software, he says.

Previous versions of the SABR flown in Northrop’s Sabreliner testbed and a U.S. Air Force F-16 were “very high-fidelity engineering prototypes, close to EMD, but not production-ready as there have been changes to the physical configuration,” Leavitt says.

Immagine

Development began as a joint program between the USAF and Taiwan.
The USAF subsequently shelved plans to procure the upgrade, but is continuing development with Taiwan as the customer.
It plans to retrofit all of its F-16A/Bs with AESAs by 2022.

EMD radar deliveries will continue through the first quarter of 2016.
Late last year, Lockheed won a $308 million contract to provide Taiwan with 144 production AESA radars and another $272 million to install the upgrade kits in 142 aircraft, with the work to be performed in Taiwan.

Leavitt says the hardware configuration for the APG-83 is “very firm,” and software is being developed in a series of blocks, beginning with the initial Block 0.5 engineering release shipped with the first EMD unit.
This will be followed by the Block 1.0 production software for Taiwan.

Software for radar modes in the APG-81 AESA in the Lockheed F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has been ported over to the APG-83.
“It is all flightworthy software,” he says, adding: “We have an innovative way of completing development without affecting any of the algorithms.”

The Block 1.0 APG-83 for Taiwan is more capable than Northrop’s latest APG-68(V)9 mechanically scanned radar in the F-16, Leavitt says, and is significantly more reliable because about 1,000 transmit/receive modules in
the active array allow for graceful degradation of the AESA.

A Block 2.0 version for USAF F-16s was to have even more capability, but since the production decision was deferred, “we are not doing anything on 2.0,” Leavitt says, adding: “Taiwan is the first international customer, and there are others we are talking to.”

South Korea awarded BAE Systems a contract in 2012 to upgrade 134 F-16C/Ds with AESAs and in 2013 selected the rival Raytheon Air Combat Radar.
But South Korea canceled BAE’s contract in November over cost concerns, and has asked the U.S. government for pricing on Lockheed’s upgrade.

Che senso ha decollare con gli speedbrake aperti? Se li é dimenticati?
