F-15X ... alcuni senatori repubblicani scrivono al Presidente ...
Five Republican senators urged President Trump in a Feb. 14 letter (*) not to buy a new variant of Boeing's F-15 at the expense of the F-35.

Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz of Texas, Marco Rubio of Florida, Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska cosigned the letter, which argues the Air Force needs to buy 60 F-35As in Fiscal 2020 to reach a rate of 80 jets required to succeed in the 2025 threat environment.

Lockheed just rebranded the F-16V Block 70 for India as the F-21.
Not to be confused with the U.S. Navy’s small IAI Kfir fleet also designated F-21.
The ‘21’ is becoming popular, ie B-21.
I also worry the USAF will next designate T-X as T-21, instead of sequentially correct T-54

Ancora sul 'nuovo' F-21 ... secondo FlightGlobal ...
But that name is not the only thing to have appeared before: the F-21 designation is not new either.
The Kfir – an Israeli development of the Dassault Mirage III with a GE Aviation J79 engine – was operated in the late 1980s and early 1990s by the US Navy and Marine Corps as an aggressor aircraft, when it was designated the F-21.

Boeing has promoted its industrial capabilities in India, as it eyes potential deals to sell the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet to the nation's air force and navy.
Speaking at the Aero India show near Bengaluru on 21 February, company officials said it would build a “factory of the future” in India to produce the Super Hornet.
New Delhi has two separate requirements for combat aircraft: 110 for the air force and 57 for the navy.
Boeing also announced that it has held discussions with partners Hindustan Aeronautics and Mahindra Defence Systems at the show.
“The partners are developing comprehensive plans to set up a new 'factory of the future' to manufacture Super Hornet locally,” says Boeing.
“The programme is expected to work with several Indian suppliers to grow a thriving defence aerospace base, which could accelerate other programmes. The facility will create a world-class, highly-trained aerospace workforce.”

Pakistan hopes to sell its JF-17 Thunder aircraft to Malaysia, now that the cash-strapped country is officially looking for such a fighter.
Malaysia was eyeing larger fighters like the Rafale and Typhoon, but that plan was shelved due to budgetary woes, and the country instead turned to fulfill a light combat aircraft requirement.
An LCA fleet would support Malaysia’s F/A-18 and Su-30 fighters.
The JF-17 is under consideration alongside the Tejas, produced by India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, and the FA-50 Golden Eagle, made by South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Industries.
Pakistan’s offering is the most affordable of the three.

I futuri caccia di Taiwan ... fra politica e minacce ...
The leadership of Taiwan has recently stepped up efforts to obtain a new American fighter aircraft to urgently recapitalise its aging air force.
Media reports indicate that president Tsai Ing-wen has publically confirmed that a request for new fighter aircraft has been made to Washington.
This follows a television interview in which the deputy defence minister said that a request had been sent to the USA, asking it to provide Taipei information on the number and type of fighters it could obtain.
A 7 March press release from the US-Taiwan Business Council, an agency that fosters trade and business relations between the USA and Taiwan, suggests that Taiwan may have a preference for the Lockheed Martin F-16V.
“The US-Taiwan Business Council has long supported the sale of additional F-16s to Taiwan,” it says.

Futuri caccia canadesi ... Saab presenta la sua proposta ...
Saab is ready to sell the Canadian government 88 Canada-built Gripen fighters should Ottawa require home-built aircraft.
The Swedish combat aircraft manufacturer cautions nothing is finalised and its offer will ultimately reflect Canada’s formal request for proposal (RFP).
The company expects the final RFP to be issued around midyear by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
“As we have demonstrated in Brazil, and depending on the requirements of a customer, we can build fighter jets in countries other than Sweden,” says the company.
“Gripen is the world’s most-modern multi-role aircraft and a perfect match to Canada’s operational requirements for NORAD defense and expeditionary missions. It is proven to operate in any climate, from arctic to desert.”

Nostalgia, negli USA, per 'l'epoca d'oro' ...
The Air Force’s acquisition head wants to go back to a golden era of fighter jet production by taking advantage of future engineering technology and the brains of both major manufacturers and small startups.
During the Vietnam War era, companies churned out what is known as the Century Series of aircraft — F-100 to F-111 — to meet the growing need for combat aircraft and to bring on developing technology.
However, the demand signal changed during the Cold War and “technology didn’t change very fast,” Will Roper, the assistant secretary for acquisition, said.
As a result, with recent aircraft programs, such as the F-15, F-16, or F-22, the service had to wait on technology to become available so it moved forward with massive buys of aircraft with the intention of keeping those aircraft in the fleet for decades.

Some officers of the Fuerza Aerea Argentina (FAA) clearly expressed their preference for Leonardo's M-346FA.
Their evaluation is understandable considering the great advantages that the M-346 is offering to many armed forces.
The Italian-made aircraft would be an excellent substitute for the old FAA A-4 Skyhawks and would guarantee the nation an excellent multi-role capability at a low acquisition and operational cost.

La Russia ... ci prova ...
Russia Offers Su-35 to Turkey in Lieu of F-35 ...

Russia immediately offered its Su-35 to Turkey in the aftermath of the US announcement that Ankara is out of the F-35 program.
The Kremlin-backed TASS news service reported July 18 (*) that the government conglomerate Rostec is “ready to discuss the deliveries” of the Su-35, which began service with the Russian Air Force in 2015.
Following the first deliveries of the S-400 air-defense system to Turkey on July 12, the White House and Pentagon announced Turkey has been removed from the F-35 program.
Turkish personnel working with the jet are leaving the US, and all F-35 parts production inside Turkey will end.
Ellen Lord, the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, told reporters July 17 that shifting Turkey’s piece of the supply chain costs $500 million to $600 million, though both the F-35 Joint Program Office and Lockheed Martin are working to minimize the impact of the move.
The process of “unwinding” Turkey from the F-35 program was announced long before the S-400 delivery, though the Turkish Defense Ministry claimed in a July 17 statement the US “does not rely on any legitimate justification.”

Bulgaria & F-16 ... il Parlamento alla riscossa ... :knight:
... e torna la luce verde ...

Immagine
Bulgaria's on-off acquisition of the Lockheed Martin F-16V appears to be proceeding again after the country's parliament overturned a presidential veto of the $1.26 billion deal.
On 23 July, President Rumen Radev stopped the procurement – the country's largest since the fall of Communism – arguing that there was no "consensus" over the eight-aircraft purchase and that the process had been rushed through parliament.
But barely 24h later, a parliamentary defence committee had vetoed Radev's veto and resubmitted the procurement law to the national assembly.
That was passed on 26 July, with the bill signed into law by Radev and then published in Bulgaria's state gazette three days later.

The Trump administration’s plan to sell more than 60 new F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan is now moving forward after longer-than-anticipated negotiations, paving the way for a deal that is sure to prompt fresh protests from China only days after Washington and Beijing agreed to restart trade talks.
Taiwan formally submitted a request for 66 “Block 70” F-16 jets, the newest version of Lockheed Martin’s legacy fighter, earlier this year, but the deal took longer than expected to hammer out due to negotiations over price and configuration of the aircraft ...

The Trump administration has informally green lit a potential major arms sale to Taiwan involving dozens of new Lockheed Martin F-16V fighter jets, according to administration and Capitol Hill sources.
The move is part of Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s larger drive to combine arms bought from the U.S with domestically developed training jets, submarines and other weapons technology.
It’s also sure to infuriate China amid its tense trade dispute with the U.S. and controversial crackdown on Hong Kong protesters.
The fighter jet sale had been in limbo as the White House directed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to hold off, Capitol Hill sources said.
That fueled speculation Trump planned to use it as a bargaining chip in ongoing trade negotiations with China.
