CH-47 Chinook

http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=2389

Anche sul nostro Portale si è voluto dare spazio a questo importante anniversario:

The Boeing CH-47F Chinook helicopter has emerged as the final candidate in India's competition for 15 heavy lift helicopters.

"In the proposal initiated by [the] Indian air force for [the] procurement of 15 heavy lift helicopters, Boeing with the Chinook helicopter has emerged as the L1 vendor," said Indian defence minister AK Antony in a written reply to a question in parliament.

"The cost of the contract would depend upon outcome of the contract negotiation with the L1 Vendor, which has not yet concluded."

The Chinook's rival in the competition was Russia's Mil Mi-26 helicopter.

Una proposta di Boeing agli acquirenti del CH-47 .....
With the first CH-47F Chinook engineering and manufacturing development helicopter loaded into final assembly on 25 June for its Block II upgrades, Boeing is using the Farnborough Airshow to highlight the advantages of its latest improvements to prospective international customers.
Boeing expects to upgrade some 500 Chinooks with Block II capabilities for the US Army at its Philadelphia, Pennsylvania facility in the coming years.
At the moment, the company has a $276 million Army contract to build and test the upgrades on three Chinooks.
Boeing plans to test the helicopters in 2019 and anticipates first delivery in 2023.
The heavy lift cargo helicopter’s Block II upgrades include single cell composite fuel tanks with increased capacity, a new drivetrain, and a new blade that promises extra lift in high and hot situations.
Overall, the aircraft will increase its payload capacity by more than 4,000lb, Boeing says.

Upcoming testing is being done under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement launched in 2016 between Boeing, the US Army and GE Aviation.

La Francia ci sta facendo su un pensierino ... :-k
France is considering the acquisition of an undisclosed number of special forces-roled Boeing CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters for its air force.
Although the French military operates extensive numbers of Airbus Helicopters H225M Caracal and NH Industries NH90 Caiman rotorcraft – both in the 11t class – the country's deployment in Mali has been augmented by three Royal Air Force Chinooks.
That RAF presence was recently renewed for at least six months, and a pair of the tandem-rotor type from the UK also participated in a Paris fly-past as part of the Bastille Day celebrations on 14 July.

Honeywell signed an agreement with the US Army to demonstrate a more-powerful variant of its T55 turboshaft on the Boeing CH-47F Chinook heavy lift helicopter.
The T55-GA-714C engine generates 6,000hp (4474kW), a 25% increase in power compared to the current T55 that is on the twined-engined CH-47, Honeywell says on 4 June (*).
The engine also burns 10% less fuel.
The company claims the new variant of the T55 would also be easier to maintain and have lower operating costs as a result of modifications.

La notizia ... secondo un noto ex-settimanale britannico ...
Chinook wins out in German heavy-lift helicopter contest ...
By Dominic Perry - 1 June 2022 ...

Germany intends to acquire 60 Boeing CH-47 Chinooks for a long-running effort to replace the elderly Sikorsky CH-53G helicopters operated by its air force.
Defence minister Christine Lambrecht disclosed the selection of the Chinook in a speech to German lawmakers on 1 June.
However, parliamentarians must still approve the purchase.
Germany’s defence ministry says the decision is “strengthening our ability to co-operate with Europe”.
It describes the tandem-rotor CH-47 as “modern, proven and already being used by NATO partners”.
Aside from the USA, NATO allies operating the Chinook include Canada, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey and the UK.
Selection of the CH-47 is a blow for rival Lockheed Martin, which had been offering the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion for the heavy-lift helicopter contest.
Germany currently operates a total of 80 CH-53G/GA/GS helicopters delivered in the early 1970s, according to Cirium fleets data.
The new helicopters will be acquired via the USA’s Foreign Military Sales process.
German industry will nonetheless be involved in the sustainment and in-country modification of the rotorcraft, including Airbus Helicopters, which in March signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing relating to the project.
Other members of the Chinook Deutschland Industry Team include AERO-Bildung, CAE, ESG Elektroniksystem-und Logistik, Honeywell Aerospace, Lufthansa Technik, and Rolls-Royce Deutschland.
Berlin has been attempting to replace the CH-53G fleet for the best part of a decade, including a bungled previous procurement which was cancelled in September 2020 due to cost errors.
A German court ruled last December that the termination of that effort was legal, clearing the way for the current contest.

E secondo "DefenseNews" ...
The German government will purchase 60 Boeing Chinook heavy-lift helicopters to equip the armed forces in a deal reportedly worth upwards of $4 billion, according to a Ministry of Defense announcement on Wednesday.
The CH-47F Block 2Standard Range” variant aircraft are refuelable during flight, a key requirement for the German armed forces, the statement said.
They are slated to replace the Bundeswehr’s fleet of aging CH-53, made by Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky.
Lockheed also had put in a bid for the contract, offering its CH-53K King Stallion.
The Chinook’s lower per-unit price made the difference, according to the Ministry of Defense, as it would allow Berlin to buy the maximum number of aircraft out of a range previously billed as 45 to 60 copies.
That, in turn, would increase “operational flexibility” with a helicopter type used widely among NATO partners.

Una serie di incendi ai motori ha costretto l'US Army a mettere a terra, quale misura precauzionale, l'intera flotta di elicotteri CH-47 Chinook ...
The Army has grounded the entirety of its CH-47 Chinook helicopter fleet “out of an abundance of caution” after an undisclosed number of recent engine fires, the service confirmed Tuesday evening.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the move to shut down the Boeing-made fleet.
No deaths or injuries occurred due to the fires.
In a statement emailed to Army Times, Army spokesperson Cynthia Smith attributed the issue to fuel leaks.
She indicated that the service has “identified the root cause” of the leaks and “is implementing corrective measures to resolve this issue.”

The U.S. Army is continuing to modernize its heavy-lift helicopter fleet with an order for two more Boeing CH-47F Block II Chinooks and long lead funding for additional aircraft.
“Modernizing the Chinook for our Army customer is a priority,” said Ken Eland, Boeing vice president and H-47 program manager.
“CH-47F Block II improves readiness, limits future sustainment costs and provides commonality across the fleet. We're dedicated to making CH-47F Block II the best option for the Army's heavy lift mission, now and well into the future."
The CH-47F Block II Chinook is powered by cutting-edge technologies - including redesigned fuel tanks, a strengthened fuselage and an enhanced drivetrain.
