..... Chris Chadwick, president of Boeing Defense, Space and Security, said he is studying options to rephase some of the existing U.S. Navy orders, delaying some deliveries, to allow for those 12 aircraft suggested by Congress for an add in fiscal 15 to carry the line through 2017.
The Navy included a request for 22 additional jets in its unfunded priorities list, prompting Congress to add them to the president’s budget.

A new competition has emerged to upgrade the radars for potentially hundreds of the original Boeing F/A-18 Hornet fighters operated by US and foreign militaries.
Northrop Grumman and Raytheon have confirmed plans to offer tailored versions of each company’s active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars for so-called “legacy” F/A-18 Hornets, including A, B, C, D models.

Boeing and Lockheed Martin will seek to develop an export market for the IRST21 (infrared search and track) pod after gaining production approval from the US Navy, company officials say.
“We have shown the IRST capability to lots of people in the international world,” says Mark Gammon, a Boeing senior manager of F/A-18 innovation and growth.
“A lot of work has gone on with the US Navy and US government to define the export policy.”

Boeing continua ad essere ottimista .....
Boeing remains bullish about the prospects for more sales of its F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet overseas, as the end of production in late 2016 starts to loom.
Chris Raymond, vice-president, business development and strategy for Boeing Defense, Space & Security, says the type is still being pitched to several countries, with potential interest in Malaysia, Europe, the Middle East and possibly also the USA

Lunga vita al 'Calabrone' .....
The aging F/A-18 Hornet fleet will remain the bulk of the Navy's strike fighter power into the next two decades, forcing the service to extend the airframe's life from its initial 6,000 hours to 10,000 and possibly beyond.
About 40 F/A-18 A-D Hornets went through upgrades at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest in San Diego in the last fiscal year, according to Naval Air Systems Command statistics, and 50 more are scheduled for the current fiscal year.

Boeing Co said on Tuesday it was optimistic about extending production of its F/A-18E/F and EA-18G fighter jets beyond 2017 given possible foreign orders and U.S. Navy officials' recent statements about the need for more planes.
Dan Gillian, who runs both fighter programs for Boeing, told Reuters the company expected Denmark to announce the outcome of its fighter competition in June or July, and that a Middle East order could come as early as the second quarter.
Boeing has been pursuing a possible order from Kuwait for years for an uncertain number of jets to be built in 2018.

The head of Boeing’s defence business says 12 more Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet orders in fiscal 2016 plus a near-term sale to Kuwait would keep the combat jet’s production line in St Louis, Missouri, open through 2018.
Neither deal is secure, but Boeing Defense, Space and Security boss Chris Chadwick is encouraged by new defence policy legislation in Congress that would fund 12 more Super Hornet buys, and reports that Kuwait is nearing a deal to become the third nation after the US and Australia to procure E- and F-model F/A-18s.

Boeing is taking steps to keep its F-18 production line open for future Navy and international sales based on positive signs from multiple sources, the company told USNI News.
The company builds both its F/A-18F Super Hornets and F-18G Growlers on the same production line, and the last planes the company had sold were 15 Growlers in Fiscal Year 2015 – enough work to keep the line open through the end of 2017, after the Navy and Boeing agreed to a production slowdown to allow more time for a decision on the future of the production line.

:albino:

No.

The US Navy has contracted Boeing to deliver its final tranche of EA-18G Growlers, and the company is now looking to the Pentagon and abroad for more orders to sustain the common Growler and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet assembly line in St Louis beyond 2017.
The $898 million order for 15 aircraft, announced this week, rounds out the navy’s total requirement for 153 EA-18G advanced electronic attack jets – although Boeing says there are ongoing discussions and analysis with the navy about additional Growler and Super Hornet orders.

La Marina USA ne vuole altri .....
The US Navy officials have reaffirmed plans to procure an additional 24 to 36 Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets through fiscal year 2018 while also boosting F/A-18C life-extension rates, primarily due to delays in fielding the carrier-based Lockheed Martin F-35C.
Boeing has been trying desperately to shore up Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler production in St Louis, Missouri, but the company’s difficulty in securing international sales has raised doubts.
However, comments by navy officials at a congressional hearing this week suggest more F/A-18 orders in fiscal 2017 and 2018.
That’s in addition to the dozen aircraft that are likely to be funded in the current fiscal 2016 budget.

US Navy ..... necessitano nuovi aerei per coprire i vuoti .....
The US Navy says maintaining Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet production in St Louis is "vital" for overcoming a strike-fighter shortfall caused by delays in fielding the Lockheed Martin F-35C.
The navy says its legacy Hornet fleet is aging out faster than it can be replaced through overuse in lengthy campaigns in the Middle East.
Now, it is three squadrons or about 35 aircraft short of its fleet requirement, and there aren't enough aircraft available for training and to maintain pilot proficiency.
Similar problems are faced by the US Marine Corps as its Hornets and AV-8B Harrier IIs wear down.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
Today, navy air warfare division chief Rear Adm Michael Manazir tells a congressional hearing on naval strike fighters that the service needs another “16 Super Hornets or so” on top of an increase in F-35C procurement to fill the remaining gap.

The US Navy has sought more F/A-18 Super Hornets by funding two aircraft in fiscal 2017 to replace combat losses and another 14 in 2018 to maintain capacity as older Hornet units wear out.
Concerned about a shortfall in structurally-sound strike fighters, the navy has accelerated its procurement of F-35s by funding 64 carrier-based models, eight more than planned, and keeping the Super Hornet factory in St Louis, Missouri in production amid lacklustre foreign sales.

"That's when I realize my lips were tingling, my fingers are tingling, and I'm like, 'S---, man, something's wrong,' " a Navy pilot recalled.
"And the guy in the back's like, 'Hey, dude! My fingers are blue!' "

The Lockheed Martin F-35 and Boeing F/A-18E/F has received strong support from lawmakers in the US House of Representatives, with the defence appropriations subcommittee voting today on a draft spending bill that would buy 11 more Lightning IIs and 14 more Super Hornets than requested by the Pentagon for fiscal year 2017.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
The navy sought just two F/A-18E/Fs and zero Super Hornet-based EA-18G Growler electronic attack jets in its base budget submission in February, but then recommended 14 more to meet an unfunded need.
The draft defence appropriations bill now includes $1.35 billion for 16 F/A-18E/Fs.

..... Boeing rimette mano al vecchio progetto Advanced Super Hornet ..... in versione, però, meno evoluta .....
Boeing Defense has “matured its thinking” about the Advanced Super Hornet concept that it launched in 2013 and flight tested, revealing a scaled-back configuration this week with fewer stealth features and perhaps a greater chance of being picked up by the US Navy.
The new design, which would be mostly common between Boeing’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler warplanes, is a mix of new capabilities and upgrades like the centreline fuel tank-mounted infrared search and track (IRST21) sensor, integrated defensive electronic countermeasures (IDECM) Block IV, and next-generation jammer that are already being fielded as programmes of records.

Missili antinave ..... Boeing corre ai ripari .....
The US Navy will wrap up developmental free flight testing of the datalink-equipped Boeing Harpoon Block II+ sea-skimming, anti-ship missile next week, ahead of fielding on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet sometime between June and August of 2017.
The latest variant of the 45-year-old Harpoon weapon type expands on the satellite-aided navigation system introduced in Block II by adding a datalink radio ported across from the C-1 variant of Raytheon's AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) for in-flight retargeting against enemy surface vessels in cluttered coastal regions.
