Un paio di "curiosi" intercettati nei pressi dell'Alaska ...
The U.S.-Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, has released a video, which U.S. Navy personnel down below captured, showing a pair of Russian Tu-142 Bear maritime patrol aircraft flying at relatively low altitude over a site off the coast of northwest Alaska being used to support the latest iteration of the Navy's ICEX submarine exercise.
The U.S. military says that the Tu-142s loitered over the area for some time as part of a 12-hour-long patrol earlier this week.
U.S. Air Force General Terrence O’Shaughnessy, head of U.S. Northern Command, offered the additional details about the Tu-142s and their activities during a hearing before Congress on Mar. 10, 2020.

Nel giro di una settimana ... due intercettazioni di bombardieri russi nei pressi dell'Alaska ...
For the second time in a week, F-22 Raptors, supported by KC-135 Stratotankers and an E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System, intercepted two formations of Russian bombers off the coast of Alaska, North American Aerospace Defense Command announced.
Two Tu-95 Bear bombers, accompanied by Su-35 fighters and supported by an A-50 airborne early warning and control aircraft, made up the first formation.
The second included two more Tu-95s supported by an A-50.
The Russian aircraft stayed in international airspace during the June 16 flights, but came within 32 nautical miles of Alaskan shores, NORAD said.

A team of F-22s, supported by KC-135 tankers, intercepted three sets of two Russian Tu-142 maritime patrol aircraft in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone late Aug. 27, North American Aerospace Defense Command announced.
The Russian aircraft loitered in the area for about five hours, coming within 50 nautical miles of Alaskan shores, though they remained in international air space the entire time, NORAD said in a release.
The intercepts come one day after NORAD monitored a Russian submarine that surfaced in international waters near Alaska (*).

Gli F-22 del NORAD intercettano una formazione di 'curiosi' russi nei pressi dell'Alaska ...
North American Aerospace Defense Command F-22s intercepted a Russian air package comprised of two Tu-95 Bear bombers, two Su-35 Flankers, and supported by an A-50 Mainstay Airborne Warning and Control aircraft on Oct. 19, U.S. Northern Command said.
The Russian aircraft “loitered” inside the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone, or ADIZ, for about 90 minutes and came “within 30 nautical miles of Alaskan shores,” NORTHCOM reported on Oct. 20.
None of the Russian aircraft “entered United States or Canadian sovereign airspace.”

MiG-31 interceptors and Su-35 fighters from the Air Defense Forces on duty in the Eastern Military District escorted two U.S. Air Force B-1B strategic bombers over the Bering Sea,” the ministry wrote in a Russian-language caption that accompanied footage of the intercept on YouTube.
Once the American bombers were detected, the Russian tails took flight to meet them, the caption explained.
The aircraft headed back to their “home airfield” after the B-1s turned away from the Russian border.

Ormai non è più questione di curiosità ... la Cina continua, imperterrita, le violazioni all'ADIZ di Taiwan ...
Since mid-September of last year, Beijing has ratcheted up its gray-zone tactics by regularly sending planes into Taiwan’s ADIZ, with most instances occurring in the southwest corner of the zone and consisting of one to three planes.
An ADIZ is an area that extends beyond a country’s air space where air traffic controllers ask incoming aircraft to identify themselves.
Gray zone tactics are defined as “an effort or series of efforts beyond steady-state deterrence and assurance that attempts to achieve one’s security objectives without resort to direct and sizable use of force.”
The Chinese have used flights into the ADIZ, amphibious landing exercises, cyberattacks, naval patrols, and diplomatic isolation in attempts to sap Taiwan’s will to resist.

In addition, a Shaanxi Y-8 anti-submarine warfare plane buzzed the southwest and southeast corners of the identification zone.
In response, Taiwan scrambled planes, issued radio warnings, and deployed air defense missile systems to track the PLAAF planes.

La durata della presenza russa nello spazio aereo nei pressi dell'Alaska è in continua crescita ...
The Russian military is spending “hours” in airspace near Alaska when it performs flyovers in the region, the head of North American Aerospace Defense Command said on Wednesday.
Air Force Gen. Glen VanHerck, who also leads U.S. Northern Command, attributed Russia’s expanding activities in the Arctic region to the current great power competition dynamic.
“We’re back in the peer competition,” he said during a Defense Writers Group discussion.
“Clearly, Russia is trying to reassert on a global stage their influence and their capabilities. That’s exactly what’s going on. It’s great power competition,” VanHerck said when asked why Russia is performing more flights near Alaska.
“The difference between the past and now is the intercepts are more complex – multi-axis, multi-platforms and often times they’ll enter the [air defense identification zone] and stay for hours,” he added.
“That would be the significant difference. But why this is ongoing? It is playing out as the peer competition that we’ve talked about.”

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted an exercise near the island of Taiwan on Monday with the largest number of warplanes ever recorded, which could be a rehearsal of a reunification-by-force operation, again sending a clear warning to Taiwan secessionists and the US that have been making provocative moves to escalate tensions in the region, Chinese mainland experts said on Tuesday.
A US aircraft carrier exited the South China Sea via waters south of the island of Taiwan also on Monday, a region close to the PLA warplane exercise.
And analysts said the PLA displayed the capability of driving away foreign forces interfering in the Taiwan question.

Il CNO dell'US Navy lancia l'allarme sull'espansione dell'influenza Cino-Russa ...
Russia massing troops on the border of Ukraine and China continuing military overflights and maritime operations near Taiwan are in part a test of the resilience of the U.S.-led web of alliances, the chief of naval operations said on Wednesday.
Speaking to a group of NATO naval officers at a maritime warfare symposium, CNO Adm. Mike Gilday gave a loose outline of how China and Russia are expanding their influence.
“In the backdrop of all this complex and dynamic environment, eager competitors have signaled their desire to challenge the free and open international order. China and Russia are testing our cohesion, and they’re doing it in today, whether it’s along the Ukrainian-Russian border or in the Taiwan Strait. They’re operating in ways that deliberately undermine our transatlantic security,” he said.
Gilday’s comments come a day after the public release of the latest annual threat assessment from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (*) that said leaders in Beijing and Moscow are further pushing the limits of the current international order.

Proprio sotto il loro naso ...
A Russian Navy surveillance ship has spent the last several days lingering off the coast of the western coast of Hawaii, USNI News has learned.
The Russian ship has operated just outside U.S. territorial waters, Navy officials confirmed to USNI News on Tuesday.
“U.S. Pacific Fleet is aware of the Russian vessel operating in international waters in the vicinity of Hawaii and will continue to track it through the duration of its time here,” U.S. Pacific Fleet spokesman Capt. John Gay said in a statement to USNI News.
“Through maritime patrol aircraft, surface ships and joint capabilities, we can closely monitor all vessels in the Indo-Pacific area of operations.”
A defense official told USNI News that the ship had been operating within the bounds of international law and was not a hazard to navigation.
The ship has not been broadcasting an automatic identification system (AIS) signal, officials confirmed to USNI News.
U.S. Pacific Fleet did not provide additional details about the Russian ship, but USNI News understands the vessel is the Russian Navy Vishnya-class auxiliary general intelligence (AGI) ship Kareliya (SSV-535).
