Il Segretario alla Marina Braithwaite traccia quelli che potrebbero essere i futuri programmi dell'US Navy toccando, fra gli altri, l'argomento "portaerei leggere" ...
Additionally, he suggested creating up to six light aircraft carriers that could be used as a platform for unmanned aircraft.
“We won the battle of Atlantic on the backs of CVL light carriers that were able to give us [anti-submarine warfare] advantage over the U-boat threat. When you look, and you think about the threat that emanates from the Atlantic today, it’s a little different,” he said.
“The submarine capability of Russia has gotten more challenging, more concerning. Maybe there’s a way that we can shift and perhaps take some of those strike groups and put them where the threat is.”

NGAD ... il CNO Gilday esorta la Marina USA a non ripetere gli errori del passato ...
A decade from now, the backbone of the Navy’s tactical air fleet will begin to retire with no clear successor in line yet.
Earlier this year, the service signaled the end of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet program and zeroed out the production line past 2021 to instead fund the Navy’s Next Generation Air Dominance program.
The NGAD program office stood up earlier this year after a decade of stops and starts to develop a system or systems that will replace the weapons-carrying capacity of the Super Hornet ...
For Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday, the Navy needs to avoid repeating the procedural mistakes that led to a 20-year process for the F-35C Lighting II Joint Strike Fighter to make it into the Fleet.

Al termine della crociera di addestramento a bordo della HMS Queen Elizabeth ... i Marines riferiscono ...
This week a squadron of Marine F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters wrapped up nearly two months of training aboard the U.K. Royal Navy HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08), paving the way for U.S. and U.K. fighters to operate interchangeably when the British aircraft carrier leaves on its first deployment.
The “Wake Island Avengers” of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 211 and the Royal Air Force’s 617 Squadron “The Dambusters” used the recent drills to demonstrate the countries can seamlessly fight and maintain the F-35Bs from the carrier.
During a recent interview with USNI News, VMFA-211 commanding officer Lt. Col. Joseph Freshour detailed how the squadrons flew combinations of aircraft, shared parts and performed integrated maintenance throughout the last few weeks.

Oltre alle aviazioni imbarcate americane e francese vi è pure quella del Regno Unito ... attualmente in preda al dubbio circa il numero di F-35B da acquistare ...
British Ministry of Defence officials have confirmed the military will buy more than the 48 F-35B combat jets already on order, but they were reluctant to be drawn on exactly when and how many aircraft may eventually be involved when they gave evidence to the parliamentary Defence committee Dec 8.
The number and profile of a future order will in part be decided by the outcome of assessment work the British are doing on their future combat air strategy, Air Marshal Richard Knighton, the deputy chief of the defense staff for capability, told the committee hearing.
“We know we need to increase the number of F-35Bs to support the [Royal Navy] carrier through to its out-of-service date.
The precise number will dependent a bit on the work we do and the investment we are making on the FCAS,” he said, referring to the UK-led Tempest program.
“We expect to make a definitive judgement around the total future fleet in the 2025 timeframe,” Knighton added.

Partiam, si, si, partiam, si, si, partiam ...
The Royal Navy’s Carrier Strike Group (CSG), centered around the 65,000-tonne carrier Queen Elizabeth, has left port on schedule.
Following a two-week exercise with NATO forces the CSG will head for the Mediterranean and further east on its first operational cruise.
This will be the first time that the Royal Navy has undertaken an operational carrier deployment since 2010.
Queen Elizabeth left its home port at Portsmouth on the south coast of England on May 1, accompanied by Type 45 destroyers Defender and Diamond, and Type 23 frigate Kent.
Another Type 23, Richmond, sailed from its base at Devonport, and the CSG is to be joined by the U.S. destroyer The Sullivans, the Dutch frigate Evertsen and an Astute-class submarine.
Two Royal Fleet Auxiliaries, Fort Victoria and Tidespring, are with the CSG to supply fuel, food, and ammunition.
--- --- ---
On May 3 the CSG’s main air wing component began to arrive while the carrier was at sea, comprising eight Lockheed Martin F-35Bs from the Royal Air Force’s No. 617 “Dambusters” Squadron and 10 F-35Bs from the U.S. Marine Corps squadron VMFA-211 “Wake Island Avengers”, which had flown in from the U.S. via RAF Lakenheath.

Britain has taken a big step towards a two-strike carrier Navy with the debut of the F-35 Lightning aboard HMS Prince of Wales.
The stealth fighter touched down for the first time on the deck of the second of Britain’s new aircraft carriers on a calm, clear day off the south coast of England.
HMS Prince of Wales manoeuvered into position to accept the aircraft which touched down on the sprawling flight deck with precision amid an air of excitement from the ship’s company.
“It was a real honour to be the first pilot to land the F-35B on HMS Prince of Wales,” said RAF Squadron Leader Will of 207 Squadron from Marham.

La Marine Nationale in Estremo Oriente ...
As France’s Jeanne D’Arc deployment nears its conclusion, the French are looking to continue high-end operations in the Indo-Pacific region, according to two French officials in command of the deployment.
Speaking to USNI News in separate interviews, Rear Adm. Jean-Mathieu Rey, Joint Commander French Armed Forces in the Asia-Pacific (ALPACI) and Captain Arnaud Tranchant, commanding officer of the LHD FS Tonnerre (L9104), said the Jeanne D’Arc task group’s activities in the Indo-Pacific alongside its partners were executed successfully and that such cooperation activities are important to the region, particularly with exercises like the ARC21 exercise held in Japan from May 11th to 16th.
The Jeanne D’Arc Task group, consisting of the Tonnerre and the frigate FS Surcouf (F711) together with embarked French ground forces and helicopters, carried out the exercise together with forces from Australia, Japan and the United States.
The drills included both naval and amphibious warfare activities.
The task group’s deployment to the region is a combined operational and training deployment with naval cadet officers also embarked on the ships as part of their training.

Recent commercial satellite imagery reveals that China has made substantial progress in the construction of its third aircraft carrier, commonly known as the Type 003.
The vessel is slated to become the largest surface combatant in the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and significantly upgrade China’s naval capabilities.
Work on the Type 003 has been underway at Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai since at least late 2018.
Over the last several months, prefabricated components of the vessel’s hull have been assembled.
Satellite imagery from May 30, 2021, shows that the flight deck is now partially complete.
While much remains to be done, close analysis of the Type 003’s status offers key insights about its configuration.

As the Marine Corps continues to make changes to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving future operating environment, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314 has reached a new milestone in Marine Corps history as they declare their full operational capability (FOC) for the F-35C Lightning II.
“VMFA-314 is the first F-35C squadron in the Marine Corps to declare FOC. They are now full up round and bring the incredible 5th generation capability to 3rd MAW. They will deploy as part of a Carrier Strike Group next year.” said Maj. Gen. Christopher Mahoney, 3rd MAW commanding general.
“FOC for the Black knights is yet another step forward in achieving Force Design objectives. The Black Knights are ready- 3rd MAW is ready.”
FOC is significant in its confirmation that VMFA-314 is fully prepared and equipped successfully deploy aboard United States Navy aircraft carriers, marking the first FOC declaration for Marine Corps.
This inaugural event is met after VMFA-314 received their first F-35C on January 21, 2020 when their first jet arrived at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar from Naval Air Station Lemoore.

.

Sarebbe meglio lasciare solo "F35” e cancellare “Lightning II”

C’è già stato il P38 Lightning; non è normale ed è pure inappropriato,
avere due aerei diversi come il giorno e la notte, con lo stesso nome “Lightning”.

"Ogni aereo deve avere un solo nome,
così si evita pure di fare confusione".
