Dave Cornutt is right, a Brasilia can fly on one engine, even on take-off. It has been a certification requirement for airliners and all but the lightest twin aircraft since the 1940s. But it doesn't alter the fact that there have been many accidents involving twins (and four-engine planes too) after an engine failure on takeoff. The reasons are many but one that stands out is allowing the plane's speed to decay below the single-engine control speed.
More drag, less power, pilots busy, radio messages to send, distracting alarms, trying to work out why the engine failed (it might be fuel!), is there an engine fire, has the prop feathered? Unnoticed by the crew the speed starts to fall, control becomes more difficult causing more drag, the plane finally stalls with one engine on TO power and flicks on its back and crashes. That's why they train and train but an engine failure on take-off remains something to send pilots' pulse rate sky high.

Nigeria's Accident Investigation Board (NAIB) have released a brief preliminary report stating that the captain was pilot flying, the first officer pilot monitoring. Prior to departure the crew had discussed concerns about the aircraft, the investigation however is not yet prepared to comment on that discussion.
The aircraft was cleared for takeoff from runway 18L, winds were calm and weather is not considered to be a factor into the accident.
About 4 seconds after the power levers were moved into takeoff position the aircraft's aural warning system warned "Takeoff Flaps! Takeoff Flaps!".
About 3 seconds after the captain announced "takeoff power set" confirmed by the first officer the first officer detected that the aircraft was moving slowly. About 7 seconds after the takeoff power set call the aircraft voice warning system announced "Takeoff Flaps, Auto-Feather" and repeats that warning several times. According to the data available from old generation 50 parameters flight data recorder the left hand engine appeared to be working normally while the right hand engine developed substantially less thrust. The eighty knots were called, about 12 seconds later, at an estimated speed of 95 knots and below V1, the first officer asked whether the takeoff should be rejected, the captain replied they should continue. No V1 or rotate call was made. When the captain commenced rotation for takeoff the first officer called "Gently!" The first officer subsequently announced the aircraft was not climbing and reminded the captain not to stall the aircraft. The aircraft veered slowly to the right, not climbing. Tower noticed the abnormal departure and queried whether operations were normal, but never received a reply.
About 10 seconds after the wheels left the ground a stall warning activated in the cockpit and continued to operate until impact. About 30 seconds after the wheels lifted off the aircraft impacted ground in a nose down and near 90 degrees bank attitude.
Post accident investigation showed the right hand propeller in its feathered position and the right hand engine's fire handle pulled.

Siamo in Nigeria)
