se non sbaglio le compagnie usa all'inizio erano incentivate a comprare aa/mm made in USA... la NG ha avuto molto successo anche grazie alle generazioni precedenti, addestrare meccanici, piloti, ecc. su un aereo che alla fine ha le stesse caratteristiche di un modello già posseduto è un gran bel vantaggio economico per una grande compagnia...

Ormai questo 747 è in parcheggio da 4 anni e mezzo e di sicuro non volerà mai più.
Forse si salverà dalla rottamazione perchè è ormai un... divo del cinema e della pubblicità?

Per quanto riguarda il B-29 citato era L'Enola Gay, le cui gesta sono state cantate nell'omonima canzone degli Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (recentemente usata parzialmente come colonna sonora di una pubblicità di 3). La bomba che sganciò si chiamava Little Boy. Mentre la bomba su Nagasaky si chiamava Fat Man e fu lanciata da un'altro B-29, a quanto pare meno famoso: Bockscar.

A quanto pare sono entrambi sopravvissuti alla guerra e adesso sono in due musei.

Talk about a bad day.

Boeing’s surprise announcement that the 787 jet would not make its first flight this month overshadowed other bad news that hit the company on June 23.

The U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS), a $160 billion-plus program led by Boeing and SAIC, was officially terminated by Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition Ashton Carter. With the news media and Wall Street analysts scrambling to make sense of the 11th-hour delay to the 787 flight, the termination of the massive FCS program received scant notice. While the termination was no surprise – Defense Secretary Robert Gates publicly targeted the FCS in April – the move underscores the need for Boeing to fill a new hole in its defense unit.

The company’s horrendous day got worse on Capitol Hill, where the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey program came under attack at a hearing. House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) cited recent findings by the Government Accountability Office that question the aircraft’s effectiveness in combat. After the hearing, Towns issued a statement calling for a halt to production. “It’s time to put the Osprey out of its misery,” he declared.

Boeing’s executives don’t agree, of course -- but they certainly can identify with misery.
