Articolo di aviationweek sulle modifiche che verranno apportate all'aereo per minimizzare i ritardi del programma:
http://www.aviationweek.com/Article.asp ... 488795.xml[...]
Airbus plans to introduce the A350 in several batches, each of which will incorporate changes, with the most significant modifications made in the transition from Batch 2 to 3. The changes affect parts and components throughout the aircraft, and suppliers have been given detailed design targets that specify the amount of weight reduction needed, among other things.
Batch 1 will include all the flight-test aircraft and early produc-tion versions, including MSN4, industry officials say. The first round of relatively minor design changes will be incorporated with MSN5. The more fundamental upgrade will happen with MSN17, say two executives with knowledge of the matter. Airbus has not revealed the exact points of transition, but Andreas Fehring, A350 senior vice president, head of fuselage and cabin, confirms that Airbus has decided to incorporate the A350 changes by batches.
The A350's cabin is one major area in which upgrades are going to be made. From MSN17 on, 40% of cabin parts will be changed, industry officials say. Airbus neither confirms nor denies that figure. The redesign includes cabin bracketing—the way the interior is attached to the fuselage—and the air-conditioning system, as well as other interior components.
Other areas that will see significant modification are structural and wing components.
[...]
Details of Airbus's planned A350 production ramp-up are meanwhile emerging. Industry officials say the manufacturer plans to mate the fuselages and wings of four aircraft in 2012. It aims to do the mating for 12 aircraft in 2013, 24 in 2014 and 42 in 2015. Those numbers do not represent how many aircraft will be delivered in a particular year—the first A350 is not due for delivery until the second half of 2014. But it is an indication of the kind of production growth that is foreseen. Airbus declined to comment on the figures.
The production plan indicates that neither Airbus nor its suppliers have much time to build what are in some ways three different aircraft. “Nobody has the resources that are needed, neither Airbus nor the supply chain,” says the CEO of one European aerospace company. “There is going to be a fundamental cabin rework from Batch 2 to 3, plus the supply chain is ramping up development work for the A350-1000.” MSN17 is likely to be in final assembly by the end of 2013 or early 2014.

Re: Airbus A350 XWB

Andranno a comporre MSN001.After the first wing delivered to the FAL Toulouse for the ES Static Specimen aircraft (above photo), the first wing that will be install in the MSN001, first flight aircraft, has been shipped from Broughton to Bremen. It will be equipped with the moveable surfaces, the wing tip and undergo installation of flight operations systems.
The second important milestone for the wing-team in a week.
In August, the MSN001 wings have been moved by AGV to a bolting station where the previously tacked covers were removed, deburred, sealed then fastened to the structure. Following this stage, wings were moved again to a equipping station that is shared with the A330, where the fuel system and limited hydraulics were installed. After painting, each wing is loaded onto one Beluga for shipping to Bremen-Germany for complete outfitting of the electrics, pneumatics, remaining hydraulics, external systems and control surfaces before making the trip to final assembly line in Toulouse.

The Vertical Tail Plane-VTP has been assembled at Stade during last months with parts manufactured at Aciturri, Spanish Tier1 with design and built responsibility. Aciturri, with more than 1,100 employees at 7 facilities at Spain has a team with engineering, industrialization and manufacturing roles, working since more than 4 years in the project with a very close concurrence with Airbus team from Getafe, Hamburg and Stade in this project. Aciturri has capability to manufacture both metallic and composites parts with background in other Airbus programs.
The movable part of the VTP, the Rudder, has been developed by Airbus (product engineering at Hamburg) and primary parts have been manufactured and assembled by Aernnova, Spanish Tier1 in charge of the industrialization of this workpackage. The Rudder is delivered to Stade for installation in the VTP just before the final inspection and delivery to the FAL, where the VTP is final-painted with the Airlines colors at the FAL, jointly with the fuselage.
During the 'VTP&Rudder MSN01 Going to FAL Celebration' in late August, Didier Evrard and Günter Butscheck recognized the good job done by the “extended team” from Aciturri, Airbus and Aernnova, with a high level concurrence. Spain has a leader position in composite manufacturing.
The VTP for the Static Specimen, already installed in the FAL, was the first big component arriving the FAL, and as it was specifically designed for the static tests campaign; It has two different parts, one painted in red that is a dummy and the lower part is the series-composite configuration with strain gages.

Un estratto:
"Airbus takes pilots back to basics with the A350
Airbus is going to train pilots for its A350XWB differently.
The first three days in the A350 simulator will be about letting the pilots find out that it is "just another aeroplane". Without using any of the sophisticated flight guidance systems they will be able to find out how it flies and what that feels like. These pilots may not have done that for years on the aircraft they fly now, so they might find out a few things about themselves as well as the A350."

Airbus: inaugurata linea montaggio finale A350

Building the future of Airbus with the A350 XWB
Airbus continued its excellence in widebody aircraft with today’s inauguration of the A350 XWB Final Assembly Line – an event that occurred 40 years after the maiden flight of its game-changing A300, which put the company on track to becoming a world-leading commercial airliner manufacturer.
Today’s inauguration, held inside this purpose-built L-shaped facility next to Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in south-western France, marked a new industrial milestone in the A350 XWB programme. The event was attended by more than 1,000 representatives from customers, suppliers and partners, along with elected officials and other invitees – who were joined by an equal number of Airbus employees, many waving A350 XWB flags.
Airbus’ A350 XWB family is the latest expansion of a jetliner product line that traces its roots to the widebody A300 – which performed the maiden flight from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport on 28 October, 1972. While the A300 entered its final assembly phase with one booking for a small number of aircraft, the initial build-up of A350 XWBs comes as this aircraft has amassed a record 558 firm orders from 34 customers to date.
“The A350 carries forward a widebody heritage that began with the A300, and it represents Airbus’ future in possibly the most competitive industry on Earth,” said Airbus President and CEO Fabrice Brégier in a speech at the inauguration. “I thank everyone in the teams for such great work, as they are not just building the A350; they are building the future of Airbus.”
Today’s event underscored the A350 XWB programme’s progress, as it spotlighted the build-up status in the final assembly hall for the jetliner’s first two airframes. The first is a static test airframe sized as an A350-900, and to be used for ground-based structural evaluations. It is at the final assembly line’s Station 40 – with the complete fuselage assembled, along with installation of the wings and vertical tail plane. At the adjacent Station 50 is the no. 1 aircraft being built for flight – also an A350-900 version – with its fuselage already joined, and now ready for mating of the wings, as well as vertical and horizontal tail planes in the coming weeks.
As the jetliner family’s middle family member, the A350-900 accommodates 314 passengers in a typical three-class configuration. The longer-fuselage A350-1000 version seats 350, while the shortest A350-800 has a capacity of 270 passengers. All of these mid-size widebody aircraft bring together Airbus expertise in design, aerodynamics, materials and advanced systems for a highly efficient, eco-friendly jetliner series with true long-range capabilities.
In addressing today’s inaugural ceremony crowd, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Günter Butschek said final assembly of a third A350 XWB is to begin before year-end, with the programme’s production rate ramping up to a targeted 10 aircraft per month by late 2018.

Re: Airbus A350 XWB
Libya's Afriqiyah Airways has become the latest airline to defect from the Airbus A350-800, switching its order to the larger -900 and opting to take another four of the type.
Afriqiyah had previously ordered six A350s but the new deal takes its total to 10. They will be configured with 314 seat, says Airbus, which confirms the conversion.
The change will bring down the slow-selling A350-800's backlog to 112 aircraft. Several -800 customers have already converted to the larger type, and Airbus has been discussing similar migration with other carriers.
