Heathrow Airport Training Facility
In August 1998 IFTE supplied the world's first full-size Boeing 747 aviation simulator to BAA London Heathrow Airport. The facility incorporates a triple-level B747 simulator complete with 26 fire scenarios. The structure has a total mass of 250 tonnes of steel and is supported by a 12 tonne LPG propane storage facility. It includes the following features:
Length 50 metres
Wing span 28.5 metres
Height 17 metres
Simulator Specifications
3 engine types offering a variety of training:
Rolls-Royce engine scenario
Pratt & Whitney engine scenario
McDonnell Douglas MD-11 tail engine scenario
2 wing types offering different scenarios:
Port wing 'flaps down'
Starboard wing 'flaps up'
The design of the facility was completed in consultation with BAA Heathrow Airport training staff and was designed to meet their specific training requirements. The facility provides the required level of competenc-based training.

Entry techniques
Flashover style training
Breathing apparatus training
Fuel spill scenarios
Emergency services joint liaison training
Third-party training, i.e. airline / handling agent equipment training.
Internal layout replicates a 747 including passenger seating, galley, crew quarters, flight deck, hold and toilets.
