Qatar C-17 in commercial colors

The rather astonishing sight of a C-17A in airline markings was captured today at long Beach, Calif. where final preparations are underway for the delivery of two aircraft to Qatar. The aircraft will the second of two to be delivered to the middle eastern state and is painted in the livery of the commercial airline Qatar Airways, which shares the same scheme with the Qatar Amiri flight. This government-operated VIP airline is established for use by the Qatar Royal family and government staff, and to date has operated purely commercial aircraft. The fleet currently consists of two Airbus A310s, one A319, one A320, one A330, two A340s (a -200 and a -500), one 737-800 and a single 747SP. As a pseudo commercial aircraft, QA-2 is also the first C-17 to carry a commercial registration – A7-MAB. (photos; Guy Norris)

Qatar C-17s on the move at Long Beach

Two Qatar Emiri Air Force C-17s are in final preparation for delivery at Boeing’s Long Beach, Calif. site. QF1, with tail towards the camera, is due for delivery in August while QF2, painted in the colors of the Qatar Amiri flight, will follow in September. QF1 made its first flight earlier this week, around the same time as QF2 appeared in its startling livery (the first C-17 to be painted in an airline scheme). Speaking to Aviation Week at the major body join ceremony of QF1 in late March this year Qatar Armed Forces airlift selection committee head Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Malki said “we’re looking for two more, and expect to sign for these around the end of the year.” With the backlog dwindling steadily at long Beach, Boeing will be keeping fingers crossed that these additional orders materialize. Però se mi permettete, esteticamente parlando non è affatto male.

Con il mio permesso, esteticamente parlando, è uno spettacolo!
E poi che male c'è se ci svolazza un po' anche l'Emiro o chi per lui? In fondo, lasciare troppo a terra un aereo da 300 milioni di dollari, destinandolo ai soli usi militari, è sempre un peccato.
(E poi non è mica tanto strano: molti trasporti pesanti russi portavano le insegne aeroflot).

Anche i Tupolev 142 Bear per un certo periodo.

Tornando al discorso militare e ai Bear, vado un'attimo fuori discussione ma sono due immagini per lo meno per me curiose.

Il bae 748 è un'aere nato é costruito assolutamente per il trasporto civile, l'altro potrebbe tranquillamente anticipare i 707 awacs che ben conosciamo.
