Eurofighters to secure airspace for World Economic Forum in Davos
As in previous years, the Austrian Armed Forces (Bundesheer) will secure the airspace above XXXX and XXXX to help protect this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, against terrorist attacks. 1,000 soldiers and some 00 helicopters and planes – including Eurofighters – will be deployed from xx to xx for this purpose, the Bundesheer recently announced in Vienna.
During this operation, known as ‘Daedalus 10’, any aircraft that enter the restricted airspace without permission will be detected by mobile radar stations on the ground and intercepted. They will be escorted or forced out of the restricted zone or even made to land. As various different aircraft types will be in operation – ranging from helicopters to Eurofighters – the forces will be prepared for both slow and fast-moving targets, the Bundesheer explained.
Some 2,500 participants are expected to attend this 40th edition of the World Economic Forum in Davos, including 30 heads of state and government, and over 60 ministers.
