Airbus has suggested a civilian operation of the A400M airlifter, for disaster relief operations.
At a media briefing during the ILA Berlin airshow last week, Norbert Kolvenbach, vice president for public affairs Germany, noted that the aircraft is already certified by EASA.
He floated the idea of a “supranational” operator, such as the United Nations.
“The A400M could be interesting,” said Birgitte Stalder-Olsen, head of logistics, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) at the same briefing.

E' evidente ..... anche il C-130, come fai giustamente notare, ha avuto un largo impiego anche nel settore non militare ..... senza contare il fatto che ne sono state realizzate, a suo tempo, anche versioni ad uso prettamente civile .....

The UK Royal Air Force is gearing up to receive its first Airbus A400M tactical transport, having accelerated the schedule for receiving 22 of the type.
Lead UK aircraft MSN15 is at Airbus Defence & Space’s San Pablo final assembly site near Seville, Spain, and is expected to make its first flight around three weeks from now.

A series of technical issues and a longer than expected acceptance process for the first of the new transport aircraft, delivered to the main operating base at Brize Norton on Nov. 17 means that delivery of the fourth aircraft, and possibly the third, may now take place early in the new year.

With a combined six of the aircraft now being flown by their air forces, the defence ministries of France and the UK have signed a contract covering collaborative in-service support arrangements for the Airbus A400M Atlas transport.

Although Airbus Defence and Space will have delivered 10 A400M airlifters by year-end, only one less than it planned, the introduction of tactical capabilities beyond basic strategic airlift has fallen well behind.
That schedule has already been amended twice, once in 2011 as part of the renegotiation of the original contract with the seven partner nations, and again in 2012 after an engine development problem.
The delays obliged the company to make provision in its latest financial statement for possible contract losses.
