Fonte ..... "Pentagon "Arsenal Plane" Likely to be Modified B-52" .....The Pentagon’s emerging “Arsenal Plane” or “flying bomb truck” is likely to be a modified, high-tech adaptation of the iconic B-52 bomber designed to fire air-to-air weapons, release swarms of mini-drones and provide additional fire-power to 5th generation stealth fighters such as the F-35 and F-22, Pentagon officials and analysts said.
Using a B-52, which is already being modernized with new radios and an expanded internal weapons bay, would provide an existing “militarized” platform already engineered with electronic warfare ability and countermeasures designed to thwart enemy air defenses.

"By his courage in the face of hazardous combat conditions and outstanding professional skill, he successfully defended his aircraft and its crew and enabled it to complete its mission and return safely to base," reads the citation accompanying the decoration.
Fonte ..... "P&W still pushing upgrade of B-52's original TF33 engine" .....Croswell says it would be technically difficult to swap out the B-52’s engines because it would need new nacelles, and the business case isn’t there for a complete replacement.
With the cost of fuel also down, he says it would be better to reduce the maintenance cost.
“What we’re looking at right now is how to keep the Pratt & Whitney TF33 on-wing longer,” he says.
“The fuel price is kind of down, so we’re looking at an improvements package for the TF33 that will keep it on-wing and allows the air force to reduce their maintenance costs.
“We think that’s a good approach and it will be less costly because you won’t have to do major airframe changes, because if you put a new engine on the B-52 you need a new nacelle.
Fonte ..... "Wilson for Vice Chief" .....Wilson, who has over 4,500 flying hours - some 680 of which have been in combat - has also been a vocal advocate of re-engining the B-52 bomber fleet.
Wilson commanded the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing at Al Udeid AB, Qatar, from July 2009-July 2010, supporting the last stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Jennifer Hlad and Brian Everstine (5/19/2016)
All seven aircrew members escaped without injuries Thursday morning after a B-52H Stratofortress was involved in a "mishap" on the flightline at Andersen AFB, Guam, according to a press release.
A base spokesman told Air Force Magazine the incident was not a crash, but did not offer more details.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after the incident during a routine training mission around 8:30 a.m. local time.
The B-52 is deployed to Guam from Minot AFB, N.D., as part of the continuous bomber presence in the Pacific; the airmen aboard were from the 69th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron.
Officials are investigating the incident and working to mitigate any environmental impacts.
It is not clear if the bomber was carrying any weapons at the time.

Baltops is an ongoing cooperative training effort to promote security in the Baltic region with participants from about 17 nations.
The training exercise allows participants to demonstrate their own unique roles in contributing to regional and global stability and to train for deployments in support of multinational contingency operations.
Fonte ..... "B-52 Launches Internally Carried Cruise Missile" .....A B-52 at Edwards AFB, Calif., recently launched Joint Attack Surface Standoff Missiles from an internal bay for the first time.
While Stratofortresses have for decades been able to carry the cruise missiles on external pylons, the Air Force has been developing the capability to carry the missiles on an internal conventional rotary launcher to increase the total payload of the aircraft.
B-52s recently struck targets in Afghanistan for the first time since arriving at al Udeid AB, Qatar, in April, and are ramping up sorties targeting ISIS, the Air Force’s top officer said during a visit to the base.

Fonte ..... "B-52, B-1, B-2s participate in first integrated bomber operation in USPACOM AOR" .....History was made Aug. 17 when all three of Air Force Global Strike Command's strategic power projection bombers, the B-52 Stratofortress, B-1B Lancer and B-2 Spirit, simultaneously took to the sky during their first integrated bomber operation in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Though all the aircraft have deployed independently to the U.S. Pacific Command’s area of responsibility in the past, this was the first time all three bombers flew a formation pass over Andersen Air Force Base, dispersed and then simultaneously conducted operations in the South China Sea and Northeast Asia.
